Who Are We ?
The propitious birth of Sonarpur Sporting Union in the year 1919 ensued in a palacious mansion much revered for its name as it cradled a number of eminent personalities of Sonarpur. This age old mansion “Basu Bhaban” can be traced to the East of Sonarpur Railway Station. It is a brief walk from the station keeping aside the Sonarpur Bazar at its left. The main gate still bears the name provoking its prominence. Leaving the “Basu Bhaban” behind if we proceed further West we will get to a newly developed locality Acharya Prafulla Nagar. The place was once popular for its famous “Chandmari Math”. In the first half of 20th Century this field was used as a military parade ground by the British. Every year, in the month of November and December military training was organised in this ground, otherwise the field was used as a grazing ground by the local herders throughout the year. During the winter months different sports were also organised. Big camps were erected and petromax lamps illuminated the entire area. People in and around Sonarpur used to flock in to enjoy the drill and the sports events. It was a time of festivity, mirth and merrymaking for them. The excitement was so feverish that every member of the village irrespective of age and sex cherished this grand occasion. When the Britishers played football matches the huge spectators enlivened the tempo and the spirit of the sports. Every face lit with excitement and the sight was unprecedented.

It is a great jubilance and privilege on our part to share the news with everyone concerned that Sonarpur Sporting Union, one of the premier club of South 24 Parganas is celebrating its 100 years of glorious presence with pomp and grandeur. We are thankful and obliged to those luminaries and men of letters under whose able supervision and patronage Sonarpur Sporting Union earned great accolades all through its journey. We enjoyed the gorgeous presence of great administrators like Late Subhendu Sekhar Basu, Co-Founder of Indian Statistical Institute, Late Dr. Purnendu Kumar Bose, first Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Calcutta, Late Himanshu Kumar Bose, Ex Chief Engineer P.W.D. Government of West Bengal, Sri Rathindra Nath Sarkar Ex Vice President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (C.A.B), Sri Sekhar Biswas, General Secretary of All India Badminton Association and the list would go on. We have never synchronised ourselves only in developing excellence in the fields of Sports and Games but enlarged our horizon in multifarious fields. This approach has earned us fame, credibility and a sincere acceptance not only in our district but also in the state as a whole. Our endeavour has been directed towards mingling tradition and individual talent to make us adept with the drastic changes taking place in every sphere of life.

Our Achivements
- We are the only Club in the state to achieve the record of winning S.P. Hazra District Club Championship Tournament three times, which is organized by the Cricket Association of Bengal (C.A.B.).
- District Cricket League Champion (Sr:) for ten years in a row.
- District Football League Champion (Sr:) for six years in a row.
- Several times Champion in District Tournaments of Badminton and Table Tennis (Singles & Doubles).
- Champion of District Athletics Meet.
- Only affiliated unit of South 24 Parganas D.S.A. to participate in Nursery Football League organized by the Indian Football Association (I.F.A.).
- We are the only Club of the state to achieve the record of winning S.P Hazra District Club Championship Tournament organised by the Cricket Association of Bengal three times.
- At present trainees of our academy namely Mritunjay Dutta , Subham Dey are representing Bengal under 19 and under 23 Cricket team respectively
- We have also started our Table Tennis academy very recently.
- The performance of our trainers giving training in our academy is highly satisfactory so much so that within a period of twenty years
- Representing Bengal in all the Age group levels from U/15 to Ranji Trophy, was a proud member of East Zone Cricket team
- Balai Mondal was selected to represent India under 21 football team.
